Diese wissenschaftliche Ausarbeitung befasst sich hiernach mit der systematischen und angemessenen examine einer solchen Parteinationalisierung. Es soll durch qualitative Methoden gezeigt werden, wie hoch das Maß der Nationalisierung der Parteien in Westdeutschland gewesen ist. Ziel ist es, die Kernfrage zu beantworten, ob und wie sich die Homogenität in der politischen Landkarte Deutschlands signifikant verändert hat. Als Grundlage für diese Forschung dienen vor allem die Informationen des Bundeswahlleiters in Bezug auf die Bundestagswahlen seit 1949 (vgl.http://www.bundeswahlleiter.de/de/bundestagswahlen/downloads/bundestagswahlergebnisse/btw_ab49_gesamt.pdf: Seite 14ff).

Für eine angemessene Bearbeitung der Thematik wurden hierbei die Zweitstimmen der angegebenen Parteien in den jeweiligen Bundesländern genutzt. Eingegrenzt sind Werte in dieser Arbeit auf die Jahre 1957, 1969 und 1976, um die Bundesrepublik Deutschland beziehungsweise das damalige Westdeutschland in seiner jungen part als Demokratie zu erfassen. wesentlichen Akteure und erklärt ihr Verhalten und somit die Existenz der
Demokratie auf der Grundlage des aus der Ökonomie bekannten Homo
Oeconomicus. Durch den methodologischen Individualismus wird es möglich,
Makro-Phänomene in der Politik durch das Handeln rationaler,
nutzenmaximierender Akteure zu erklären.
Bei der Erklärung der Wahlbeteiligung stößt Downs allerdings auf ein challenge. Da
es sich bei der Wahl einer Regierung um ein Kollektivgut handelt, ist es für rationale
Akteure im ökonomischen Sinne nicht rational, sich an der Bereitstellung des Gutes,
also an der Wahl, zu beteiligen. Die empirische Wirklichkeit zeigt aber mit relativ
hohen Wahlbeteiligungsquoten ein ganz anderes Bild auf. Dieser Widerspruch ist in
der Literatur als Downs’sches Wahlparadoxon bekannt.
