El poemario que tenéis a los angeles vista, SONETOS IMPROMPTU Y OTROS SONETOS es un libro que pretende rendir homenaje al soneto, esa composición poética clásica nacida en Italia, que introdujeron en España poetas del siglo XV como Garcilaso y Boscán, pero muy utilizada posteriormente por los grandes poetas de nuestro Siglo de Oro. El título de Sonetos impromptu lo he tomado prestado de uno de los libros-manuscritos que poseo y que escribí durante los años 1980-1981. Consta de 50 sonetos, que constituyen l. a. primera parte del presente poemario, pero he añadido también una segunda parte con otros fifty seven sonetos más, que he ido escribiendo en épocas anteriores y posteriores, seleccionándolos para formar parte del presente libro.
Escribí Sonetos impromptu (1980-1981) a los angeles salida de una desdichada fase de mi vida, sacudida por una fuerte depresión que me supuso una baja temporal en mi trabajo docente. Llevado de un optimismo y una euforia recién nacidos, dejé mis pasadas composiciones intimistas y personales, llenas de soledad, para adentrarme en un mundo más alegre y extrovertido, en el que usé versos más altisonantes, más rimbombantes, de acuerdo con ese mundo external, más estimulante y amable, que se abría ante mí.
